Services

We are proud to  carry out the following services either on site or on our premises.

Visual inspection, Penetrant inspection, Magnetic particle inspection, Ultrasonic inspection

All our inspectors are level II qualified to PCN. ASNT or CSWIP

Surface InspectionVisual Inspection (VT)

The importance of visual inspection is often over looked.  A visual test will provide a wealth of information about a weld or component.  Many defects such as porosity, cracks, incomplete fusion, inclusions, overlap, edge melt, and incomplete penetration can be observed with just a simple visual exam.   A weld that passes a visual exam has a much higher probability of passing further Non-Destructive Testing methods.

Penetrant Inspection (PT)Penetrant inspection

a sensitive method of detecting and locating discontinuities in most components and welds that are clear and open to the surface. A penetrating liquid dye is applied to the cleaned surface. This dye will seep into surface discontinuities. After a certain amount of time (dwell time), the excess penetrant dye is removed. A developer is then applied that acts like a blotter and draws the remaining penetrant out of the discontinuity. Penetrant inspection is used for both magnetic and non-magnetic materials like aluminium, stainless steel, magnesium, titanium, bronze etc. and will detect extremely small cracks. There are three different types of penetrant used with both visible and fluorescent methods. These are classified by how they are removed from the test surface: solvent removable, water washable, and post-emulsifiable.We can carry out penetrant inspections in our own testing facilities or we can come to you.

Magnetic Particle Inspection (MT)

Magnetic particle inspection (MPI) also known as crack testing is a method that can be used to find surface and near surface flaws in ferromagnetic materials such as steel and iron it is primarily used to detect surface breaking flaws. A magnetic force is applied to a component and if a crack or discontinuity is present a flux leakage field is formed around the crack or discontinuity. When magnetic particles are applied they are attracted to the field enabling the crack or discontinuity to become visible. We can carry out magnetic particle inspections in our own testing facilities or we can come to you.

Volumetric inspection (Internal)

Ultrasonic Inspection (UT)

Ultrasonic inspection is used to detect internal discontinuities or cracks in a component or weld. An ultra sound wave is sent into a component or weld and a sound wave (echo) returns to the ultrasonic set from either the far side of the component or a defect. The signal is then interpreted by the operator. Ultrasonic inspection is a highly portable system and is ideal for all kinds of site work.  Ultrasonic Testing can be used for the inspection of the following, Welds – cracks, lack of fusion, root defects, porosity. Castings – shrinkage, cracks, cavities.Wrought products e.g. rolled plate, bars and forgings – laminations, bursts, stringers, cracks.
